Updates on Final Project:)

As of right now, November 11th, I honestly haven't made much progress on my final project. I would say that I am definitely more confident with my skills in Neatline, especially thanks to attending the second tutorial session, so I feel better with the idea of using this format for the project. I also have been able to find a few sources that will be serve as helpful research. On the most part however, I am having a hard time pulling primary sources from my secondary sources and therefore creating a really vast and thorough works cited page. I more or less know what direction I want to go in terms of my research and topics of interest, but I'm struggling to find good sources that will have content that connects with my main topic. In other words, I think I'm stuck in a slump right now with research, so any tips on how I can make that process easier/sites I should visit would be most welcome:) If I'm being honest, I haven't used my time very wisely when it comes to working on this project, but I know that once break comes I will have more time to put in the effort and commitment needed.

  1. Hey Catalina! I would agree with you, personally, after the second Neatline tutorial, I feel much more confident in my abilities using it. I am also having trouble finding primary sources that go with my topic. Honestly the hard part is finding the right key words that will give me results on what I am looking for. I suggest putting in keywords that are similar to your topic, they might not totally relate to your topic but if there are results then you can sift through it and there might be something that'll be a match. I wish you the best of luck🍀!

  2. Hi Catalina! Sometimes, it's hard to find good sources. You think it's great, but sometimes, it's not and it can be frustrating. I was also struggling on finding sources. For me, my key words were too specific, so I had to take a step back and make my keywords more broad. After, I found interesting sources and used the topics under the sources to use as keywords. I repeated and got further into the rabbithole. It does take time, but I have faith that you can do it! I can't wait to see what you end up making! Good luck with your research!

  3. I can definitely sympathize with struggling to find good sources, especially since my topic is a little specific. My time management has been awful, and I'm really behind- it's nice to see other students being in a somewhat similar spot, though. Good luck on the project!

  4. Hey Catalina! I definitely feel you on the finding sources thing. Finding primary sources from my secondary sources has also been a major challenge for me in this project. I have read and annotated sooo many articles that didn't even make it on to my bibliography! It can be frustrating, but I second what Hilary said about the keywords. Trying different combinations and different phrases helped me find new sources that were more the realm I was looking for, and while I am definitely still a ways away from where I want to be, I am a lot closer than I was last week! Good luck!

  5. Hey Catalina, I'm glad to hear you're more confident with Neatline! I, too, feel more comfortable using the platform but know that I'll probably face a few roadbumps along the way. Excited to see how your project turns out!

  6. It's good that you are feeling more comfortable with Neatline but I understand the struggle of finding good sources. I am kind of stuck finding some sources as well. I think what has helped me that might help you is using the MLA international bibliography database if you haven't yet because I found that one to have more relevant sources than some of the other databases.

  7. Hey Catalina, I'm also having trouble with getting those primary sources and I don't think I quite understand the pulling primary sources from secondary sources yet. This whole research thing still feels pretty difficult to me but I'm hoping that after some more meetings with Michelle things will be all set by the time of the final presentations.
